Hello, and welcome.
I thought it would be lovely to begin this little blog by introducing myself properly and sharing a little about who I am, why I became a celebrant and what this new chapter means to me.
My name is Helen Borking and I am an independent celebrant based in Lancashire, creating personalised funeral services, weddings, vow renewals and naming ceremonies.
Like many people approaching retirement, I found myself thinking about what life might look like next. I knew one thing for certain — I didn’t want to simply stop. I still wanted purpose, connection and the opportunity to do something meaningful.
Becoming a celebrant felt like a very natural fit.
I’ve always loved people, stories and conversation, and I truly believe life’s important moments deserve to feel personal, heartfelt and authentic — whether that’s celebrating a marriage, welcoming a child into a family or saying goodbye to somebody deeply loved.
Every Story Is Different
What I love most about celebrancy is that no two ceremonies are ever the same.
Every person, every family and every story is unique.
Some ceremonies are full of laughter. Some are emotional and reflective. Most are a mixture of both. My role is simply to listen carefully, guide gently and create something that feels right for the people at the centre of it.
Beginning This Journey
I’m still very much at the beginning of this journey, but already I feel incredibly grateful for the kindness, encouragement and trust people have shown me.
Through this blog, I hope to share:
- ideas and inspiration for ceremonies
- helpful guidance for families and couples
- behind-the-scenes insights into celebrant life
- and perhaps a little bit of my Lancashire humour along the way too
